The final countdown!

On tuesday we poured in the top concrete layer on the big rammed earth wall, then removed the formwork for the last time and finally saw it in its amazing beauty. WOW!

We were able to complete the other four walls and the form of the building finally emerged. We layed the flooring in the afternoon and began prefabricating the roof components. Also the bench top for the stone wall beside the house was built, while improving the area surrounding our building.

Am Dienstag füllten wir die oberste Betonschicht in die große gerammte Wand ein, bauten zum letzten Mal die Schalung ab und konnten endlich die Wand in ihrer atemberaubenden Schönheit betrachten. WOW! Auch die anderen vier Wände konnten wir fertigstellen.

Danach konnten wir die Bodenplatte gießen und begannen mit den Vorbereitungen für die Dachkomponenten. Die Sitzfläche für die Steinmauer neben dem Haus wurde gebaut, während mit den Landschaftsarbeiten um unser Haus herum begonnen wurde.

On Wednesday we took off the final layer of formwork on the small rammed earth wall, placing wooden caps to the top of the walls to support the roof structure. We also began painting the adobe brick walls. The fabrication of the roof components continued as well as the landscaping of the site.

Am Mittwoch konnten wir die noch verbliebene Schalung von der kleinen gerammten Wand abnehmen und die hölzernen Aufleger auf den Wänden anbringen. Wir bemalten die Adobe Brick Wände. Genauso zügig ging die Arbeit an den Dachkomponenten und den Landschaftsarbeiten weiter.

In the morning we put up the structural components of the roof and attached the corregated metal sheets. With the amazing skilled support of the local carpenter we almost finished the roof before dusk – only four sheets left!

During the day, participants went to Kumazi to buy beautiful fabric we need for the ceiling. We collected local plants and flowers to surround our building and the nearby landscape.

Bereits am Morgen konnten wir alle Dachkomponenten auf unseren Wänden anbringen und begannen mit der Montage des Wellblechdachs. Dank unseres unglaublich talentierten Zimmermann hielt nur der Sonnenuntergang uns davon ab, das Dach noch am selben Abend fertig zu stellen – lediglich 4 Wellbleche waren noch übrig! Während dessen konnten einige aus unserer Gruppe schöne Stoffe in Kumazi kaufen, welche wir für den Innenausbau der Zimmer benötigen. Wir sammelten in der nahen Umgebung Pflanzen und Blumen für einen wundervollen Garten um unser Haus.
